Information and media
A media team was set up several
months before the Forum. It took charge of contacts with the
media, produced a newsletter and several press releases, and
organized various activities related to the media and journalists
during the Forum. Thanks to the help of several NGOs and international
organizations, they were able to organize a five days' Training
for Journalists just before the Forum. This was offered
to a group of journalists who came from Africa, Latin America,
the Middle East and Asia. These journalists were invited to
take part in the Forum, to contribute to the discussions,
and to cover the Forum from their own point of view. They
wrote various articles, which were then posted on the Forum’s
Online News on the Internet.
The Online News is product
of a cross-sectorial partnership uniting volunteer and professional
efforts. The news offered summaries of sessions, thematic
articles and interviews about the World Civil Society Forum
on a daily basis. It gave organizations that were unable to
attend the Forum an opportunity to follow the evolution of
its major activities, as well a basis for the final executive
summaries and forum report. The articles on the Online News
reflect the opinions and analyses of the individual journalists
and not the official view of the Forum secretariat. For more
