The discussion group on youth participation and Human Rights focused on framing proposals to advance the participation
of youth in civil society, building on the wealth of experiences of its participants, representing
five continents.
General Summary
The discussion began with all participants sharing a brief summary of the activities performed by their organization to advance the participation of youth, not only in civil society endeavours, but also in government processes at the national and international level. The role of youth in the context of the Millennium Development Goals was also brought up. All the conclusions were solution-oriented and were based on the experience of the participants.
Interesting questions
- Should youth be separated from the rest of civil society for analytical
purposes?
- How can local activities expand to a global scenario? This query motivated a discussion around quantitative and qualitative participation.
Conclusions
It was agreed that youth participation in civil society initiatives had to be highlighted and the experiences of young people had to
be taken into consideration.
