Preparatory Meeting

The Preparatory Meeting of the World Civil Society Forum took place from the 18th to the 20th July 2001 in Geneva. 122 persons represented 91 organizations from 27 countries, 17 of which were developing countries.

The Preparatory Meeting had and achieved the following aims:

  • To confirm the goals and objectives of the Forum
  • To constitute a steering committee representing different domains of activity, as well as the different regions of the world. The Secretariat and coordination was provided by Mandat International.
  • To adopt the main thematic working groups of the Forum and to begin organizing them.

In addition to this, discussions were held on the role of civil society within international cooperation and, in particular, with reference to the United Nations.

Steering Committee
